Phil Rogers (farmer Phil) & his Family at Cwmrath Farm Summerhill nr Amroth set up Pembrokeshire coast organic meat in June of 2006.
The Rogers family have been farming Cwmrath farm for 22 years, and through this time the farm has seen many changes in agriculture and the local economic trends,
The farm started with just 50 acres, it was enough to make a living then but today you need to have three times the amount to be in business and make that same amount for living and to continue producing, they consider themselves very lucky to work and live in such a beautiful part of Pembrokeshire with coastal land between Amroth and Wisemans Bridge Stretching back inland as far as Colby Woodland Gardens.
Diversification is a big word in farming, but to Phil this word was put into practice a long time ago. As along side the farm for many years he was full time with the National Trust as Supervisor and Trainer in Conservational Skills.
In 1999 the decision was made to change the farm over to Organic Production and in 2001 the farm became fully organic. Since 2001 the farm has been managed under the Tir Gofal environment Scheme with much of the land being part of the Pembrokeshire National Park, and also the coastal land is (SSSI) -site of special scientific interest.
In 2002 Phil decided to put all his energy into the farm and left his employment with the national Trust. The farm has now grown to just over 170 acres Farming mainly commercial lowland breeds.
In 2005 Phil & his wife Hilary decided to convert farm outbuildings into meat cutting and chilled storage facilities. And set up Pembrokeshire coast organic meat. Their son Luke & daughter Judith now married have active roles in building up the business at Cwmrath, Luke as a food Technologist & Judith as an Animal Health Officer.
The farm has received numerous awards such as the National Trusts Fine Farm Produce Award For Britain with our Lamb as well as many other conservational & Local awards.
